Things people have asked.
Visas, dress codes, vegetarian options, and the answer to 'wait, where is Ranchi exactly?'
Do I need a visa to enter India?+
Most US passport holders need an e-Visa, which you can apply for at indianvisaonline.gov.in. Standard processing is 3–5 business days. Apply at least 4 weeks before travel to be safe. Some countries (Bhutan, Nepal) are visa-exempt.
What's the dress code?+
For the Haldi, wear something casual you don't mind staining yellow. For Sangeet, festive — Indian formalwear is amazing if you have it; cocktail formal works equally well. The Ceremony is traditional formal. Reception is cocktail or Indian formal. If you don't have Indian clothes, wear what you'd wear to any wedding.
Will there be vegetarian / vegan / halal options?+
Yes — extensive vegetarian, plenty of vegan, and we’re working with the caterer on halal options. Tell us your dietary needs in your RSVP and we’ll make sure you’re looked after.
Is there a hotel block?+
Yes. We’ve reserved blocks at two hotels in Ranchi at discounted rates — see the Stay page. The shuttle from those hotels to the venue runs throughout the day during events.
What's the weather like in Ranchi in December?+
Cool and clear. Highs around 75°F (24°C), lows around 50°F (10°C). It’s outside the monsoon. Mornings can be crisp — bring a light jacket for the Sangeet evening.
What's the local language?+
Hindi is the dominant language; English is widely spoken in cities, hotels, and at the wedding. Local language in Jharkhand is also Sadri / Nagpuri / Khortha — but you'll get by completely fine in English.
Money — should I exchange before I go?+
Bring a small amount of USD ($100–200) and exchange a portion at the airport. ATMs are everywhere in cities; cards work at hotels and most restaurants. Carry small INR for taxis, tips, and street food. UPI (the Indian QR-code payment system) is everywhere but typically requires an Indian bank account.
Are children invited?+
Family children — absolutely yes. Otherwise, the wedding is mostly an adult celebration. Reach out if you'd like to bring kids and we’ll make sure it works.
Is there a registry?+
We’ve been together for years and have plenty of stuff. If you’d like to give something, we’d genuinely love a contribution to our honeymoon fund (link forthcoming) — but your presence is the present.
What's the deal with the boarding pass everywhere?+
This whole site is themed around the journey to Ranchi — a metaphor we couldn't shake. If you’re looking at it on a phone screen, the boarding pass card might feel literal. We promise the wedding itself will not require a metal detector.
